LUCENA CITY, Quezon, Oct. 21 (PIA) –The provincial agriculture office (PAO) and the Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA) Quezon I is jointly implementing a scale insect comprehensive action program to control the further spread of the coconut scale insect infestation in Quezon province.

In a recent meeting of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (PDRRMC), provincial agriculturist Roberto Gajo said the program is in line with the provincial government’s response to control immediately the widespread infestation of coconut trees in the province.

Gajo reported that about 41,000 coconut trees in the municipalities of Sampaloc, Polilio, Mauban, Tiaong and San Antonio have been affected by the infestation.

Part of the program, according to Gajo, is the establishment of a bio control laboratory in barangay Talipan, Pagbilao for the propagation of coccinelid beetle which is known to be effective in countering coconut scale insects.

A provincial Task Force (TF) Kontra Scale Insects is now being organized by the provincial agriculturist and the PCA-Quezon I, Gajo added.

He said that he requested the provincial government through the PDRRMC to allocate funds for the programs and activities.

In addition, the PDRRMC unanimously approved Gajo’s appeal to the Sangguniang Panlalawigan to pass a resolution declaring Quezon province under the state of calamity due to the widespread infestation.

The PAO is encouraging the community particularly the coconut farmers to remove and burn affected plant parts at early sighting of signs of infestation and report the case to help in preventing the infestation from spreading out. (RMO, PIA-Quezon)

DOLE provincial director Edwin Hernandez, said the convention with the theme, “It’s More Fun to be Productive: Your Quezon Experience,” aims to bring together some 400-500 delegates representing employers, trade unionists and workers, government officials, and other stakeholders who are partners in bringing about better labor-management relations toward higher labor productivity and greater enterprise competitiveness in the region. “The Convention is an annual full-day activity of the council which serves as a venue for discussion of issues of mutual concern and for sharing of good practices in the realm of labor relations, labor standards, employment, and productivity,” Hernadez said. Quezon Board Member Alona Obispo, convention chairperson said this Convention will promote the concerted efforts of RTIPC IV-A in infusing the national consciousness about the value of productivity towards national development. “By framing our theme within the context of the “It’s more fun” slogan popularized by the Department of Tourism, we aim to impart the message that productivity is a soft concept that is easy – and fun – to mainstream into corporate and individual consciousness,” Obispo said. She added that through the convention, they hope not only to gain fresh insights and new ideas on how productivity has transformed workers, managers, and enterprises as positive forces of national development, but also to inspire their members into productive workers. “Since launching the council in 2007 at Los Baños, Laguna, the council has broadened its social dialogue to sustain cooperative labor-management relations, raise productivity, enhance competitiveness, and improve working conditions in our workplaces here in the region,” Obispo concluded (JMG, PIA-Quezon) - See more at: http://news.pia.gov.ph/index.php?article=691381974024#sthash.glTeksRh.dpufs expected

PIA | NSO-Quezon launches 2012 Input-Output Survey of Philippine Business and Industry (IOSPBI)

LUCENA CITY, Quezon, Oct. 9 (PIA) – The National Statistics Office (NSO)-Quezon launched recently the 2012 Input-Output Survey of Philippine Business and Industry (IOSPBI) in a stakeholders forum held in this city.

Provincial statistics officer Airene Pucyutan said the IOSPBI is a nationwide survey of establishments confined to the formal sector of the economy engaged in economic activities under the 2009 Philippine Standard Industrial Classification.

“The IOSPBI aims to provide a comprehensive set of statistical information required in the compilation of the 2012 Input-Output (I-O) Table of the Philippines, Pucyutan said.

The 2012 I-O Table of the Philippines, according to Pucyutan, is a comprehensive, detailed and consistent presentation of the flow of goods and services in an economy for a specified period of time.

“The table provides a basis for analysis of the inter-industry uses of goods and services,” Pucyutan said.

The information will be collected using six types of 2012 IOSPBI questionnaire specifically designed based on the economic activity of the sample establishment. These are: Form 1 for agriculture, forestry and fishing; Form 2 for mining and quarrying; Form 3 for manufacturing; Form 4 for electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply, sewerage, waste management and remediation activities; Form 5 for construction; and Form 6 for business and services.

About 90 business establishments in the province will be the samples for IOSPBI.

Pucyutan encouraged the sample establishments to cooperate by answering the questionnaires 10 days after receiving the IOSPBI form. (PIA-Quezon)

(RMO/PIA- Quezon/ Quezon PIO)
