12th Watershed Day, celebrated in Real and Infanta

REAL, Quezon, August 8 (PIA) -- The 12th Watershed Day was celebrated recently in the municipalities of Real and Infanta for the Real-Infanta Watershed Forest Reserve.

With the theme “Tubig-Kanlungan, Kayamanan at Buhay ng Bayan,” the celebration was held at Barangay Cawayan with the concerted efforts of the multi-sectoral watershed management council, the local government units, barangay health workers, barangay tanod, barangay chairmen, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), academe, peoples and non-government organizations, Philippine Army, Philippine National Police, Philippine Coastguard, Bureau of Fire Protection, Quezon provincial public safety company, Quezon water district Metro REINA Quezon Lions Club and religious sector.

Infanta vice mayor Filipina Grace America said they will continue to support the council, as she emphasized the need for a unified action in the mainstreaming of environmental protection in order to protect and conserve the watershed forest reserve.

Provincial environment and natural resources officer (PENRO) Alfredo C. Palencia representing Region 4-A regional executive director Reynulfo A. Juan talked on the importance of watershed and the need to care and rehabilitate the remaining forest for the future generation.

Palencia also encouraged the youth, NGOs, LGUs to assist the government, particularly the DENR in caring the environment, especially the watershed.

As part of the celebration, the participants planted 180 narra seedlings in a tree planting activity along Cawayan River in Barangay Cawayan, Real. (CPG/RMO-PIA4A Quezon)
